Who am I:
- Jake Hollenbeck, CPA
- Double major in Accounting and IT
- Senior Accountant at Wipfli LLP working in the area of Bank Tax
- Completed two busy season internships with Wipfli in college and have been working there full time for over 2 years (2019 – present)
Why I’m here:
- The UWW mentorship program was made to help one student, but thought I can possibly help more than one
- I think it’s very beneficial to start/complete the CPA Exam before graduation
- To hopefully help as many students as possible who are trying to pass the CPA Exam while in college
- Wondering if there is interest from you all to continue to help students and build my website
Why I have a website:
- Entrepreneur friend Brandon
- I got a lot of questions about the CPA Exam from friends and coworkers
- I proceeded to write blog posts to give them additional details
- Now I have my story on how I passed each section of the exam (along with a few other blog posts)
Who helped me:
- Amy Napolski from Becker
- Another71.com
- CPA Subreddit
- Becker (other study material works too)
- Friends who were also studying for the exam
What I wish I knew
- How to register for the exams
- How to schedule my study routine
- How to study efficiently so the information sticks (active recall, flashcards, spaced repetition)
- How to track my progress using excel (tracking what I’ve studied and what areas I’m strong/weak in) – go to jakehollenbeck.com/far
- Multiple choice questions are your friend
- Create flashcards or use flashcards from a CPA prep company
- Know your learning style
